Jean Laurel (Gifford) Hunter, 91, passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 23, 2015, at Knollwood Nursing Center in West Boylston. She was born in Worcester, the daughter of Frank G. and Jean I. Gifford.

She leaves four children, Steven A. Hunter of Holden, Jeffrey S. Hunter, Sr. and his wife, Lisa of Worcester, Gale E. Arioli and her husband, Douglas of Rutland, and Timothy B. Hunter and his wife, Carolyn of Jensen Beach, FL. Jean also leaves 13 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. Her husband Thomas predeceased her, as well as her sister, Patricia H. Gessner.

Jean graduated from North High School and Salter Secretarial School. After marrying her high school sweetheart, Tommy, she stayed home to raise their four children. Jean’s proudest accomplishment in life was her family. She also loved all of the children in the neighborhood and the Hunter home became a welcome spot for all. She was happiest preparing meals and feeding her family and their friends who would come to visit. Sunday dinner was the highlight of the week for everyone.

Jean had a giving spirit and would often go above and beyond to help those in need. She had been active in the community for Joe Schwartz Little League, a Cub Scout den mother, a member of the PTA, as well as the alter guild at St. Michael’s-on-the-Heights Church.

Jean’s family would like to thank the staff at Knollwood Nursing Center for their compassionate care.

Funeral services are private and will be held at the convenience of the family. Arrangements are under the direction of Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street, Holden. In Lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Michael’s-on-the-Heights Church, 340 Burncoat Street, Worcester, MA 01606.
