Subscription Update Obituary

     Jean (Colihan) Flanagan 97 of Worcester passed away peacefully on Friday, June 16 at Dodge Park Rest Home.
Her husband of 54 years Bernard Flanagan passed away in 2006. She was also predeceased by her twin sister Joan, brother Jack and her parents John and Frances Venus Colihan. Jean was born in Danbury CT. She leaves a son Shawn Flanagan of Webster and his children Archie Suprenant, Heather Mancini and Jonathon Suprenant. Jean leaves a daughter Sheila Burque and her husband Richard of Spencer and children David Burque, Ret Mst Sgt Jeremy Burque and Daniel Burque.

She was a graduate of St Peter’s High School in Danbury CT and Hebrew Infant’s Hospital nursing school NY, NY.

Jean was a World War II veteran serving in the Navy at Pearl Harbor. She was recently awarded a key to the city and featured in a local news story for her years of service and volunteering with many Veteran Organizations. Jean was previously awarded both veteran of the year and volunteer of the year. She was a legion member of the 40 and 8, Post 419,423,288 and Blue Star Mothers. Jean held numerous legion offices.

Jean was a member for Christ the King Church, its Woman’s Guild guild and Senior Club. She was also a volunteer with the bereavement committee for many years.

After raising her children and foster children, Jean returned to work at the former Heywood Valley Nursing Home. After her retirement Jean volunteered for many years at UMass Memorial Hospital and delivered food for meals on wheels.

The family would like to express thanks to the wonderful staff at Dodge Park Rest Home , Notre Dame Hospice and to Monsignor Thomas Sullivan for their loving care.

A Funeral will be held on Tuesday, June 20, from CALLAHAN~FAY~CASWELL Funeral Home, 61 Myrtle St. with a Funeral Mass at 10AM in Christ the King Church, 1052 Pleasant Street. Burial will be in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton. Visiting Hours are Monday, June 19 from 4 to 7PM in the funeral home. Instead of flowers please make donations in Jean’s memory to Dodge Park Rest Home 101 Randolph Rd Worcester MA 01606. Those attending Jean’s services are requested to wear red, white and blue in her honor.
