Subscription Update Obituary

Janice M. (Cote) Hurd, 88 of Charlton, passed away peacefully on Monday, April 20, 2026 at UMass Medical Center surrounded by her loving family.

Janice was born in Worcester and grew up in Shrewsbury, the only daughter of Alfred J. and Evelyn M. (Dufresne) Cote. She worked as a knitter for Worcester Knitting Company for over 35 years before retiring. Janice was a member of the PT Cruiser Club of New England; she enjoyed fishing, knitting, cardinals, NASCAR Racing and was the biggest Red Sox Fan. Janice also loved all her dogs and cats that passed before her and leaves behind her two pet cats, Rusty and Pumpkin.

Janice’s beloved husband of 60 years, Hugh M. Hurd, passed away in 2021. She is survived by her daughter, Carolyn Adams and her husband Jeff of Spencer; two grandchildren, Amanda Entwistle of Rutland and Nicholas Adams of Charlton; four great grandchildren, Patrick and Jonathan Needham, Lilliana Glaiser and Brody Macaulay; many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by five brothers, Alfred L. Cote, David A. Cote, John “Jackie” Cote, Paul J. Cote and Richard P. Cote.

A graveside service for Janice will be held on Thursday, April 30, 2026 at 11:00 am at Worcester County Memorial Park, 217 Richards Ave., Paxton, MA. 01612. MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St., Worcester is honored to be assisting the family with arrangements.
