Subscription Update Obituary

  James L. Sullivan, 93, of 5 Sunset Drive, Leicester, died Monday, May 28th at the Washburn House in Worcester.

  He leaves his wife of 59 years, Phyllis E. (Brown) Sullivan; a sister, Irene Enman of Auburn; his best friends, Jim and "Pete" Connery of Leicester; nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by brothers: Edward, John and William Sullivan and a sister, Helen Favreault.

  Jim was a shipper at Thom McAn division of Melville Shoe in Worcester where he worked for 42 years, retiring in 1977. He was a former member and shop steward of the Union Local 170. He served his country during WWII in the U.S. Army in Europe. He was a 50+ year member and past commander of the Main South American Legion Post 341 in Worcester and a lifetime member of the V.F.W. Post 7556 in Rochdale. He attended Commerce High in Worcester. He was elected to the Leicester High School Athletic Hall of Fame as an Honorary Member and the David Prouty High School "Greatest Contribution to Sports Award" for covering area sports in The New Leader and County Courier.

  He once wrote articles for several local newspapers, including a Senior Citizen News column in the Leicester Journal. He was a founder and past President of the Senior Citizen Club of Leicester. In 1995, he received the Mass. Executive Office of Elder Affairs Secretary Award of Excellence in Elder Services. Former member of Greendale Retired Men's Club and United Commercial Travelers. He was a member of St. Aloysius-St. Jude Parish. Born in Worcester, he was the son of Patrick H. and Mary (Dolan) Sullivan.

  The funeral will be held on Thursday, May 31st from the MORRISON-MORIN FUNERAL HOME, 1131 Main St., Leicester with a Funeral Mass at 10 a.m. in St. Aloysius-St. Jude Church, 489 Pleasant St., Leicester. Burial will follow in Worcester County Memorial Park with Military Honors. Calling hours are Wednesday, from 5 to 7p.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to either Leicester High School Athletic Fund, 174 Paxton St., Leicester or Senior Citizen Club of Leicester, P.O.
