James F. Pogorek, 73 of Lecanto, Florida, formerly of Spencer passed away unexpectedly after being stricken ill at home on Sunday, December 24, 2023.

James was born in Worcester, the son of Walter J. Pogorek, Sr. and Dorothy (Berry) Pogorek.   He graduated from Worcester Boys Trade and New England School of Accounting. HE joined the United States Navy, serving proudly during the Vietnam Era.  He then earned his bachelor’s degree from Worcester State College and his master’s degree from Nichols College.  James spent his entire career of 45 years with the Jamesbury Corporation in many positions before retiring as manager of business process and systems in 2013.

James is survived by the “Love of his life” and wife of 51 years Joanne (Dente) Pogorek; his two sons, Robert J. Pogorek and his wife Meaghan of Olathe, KS, Brian J. Pogorek and his wife Andrea of Hudson, MA; two granddaughters he cherished, Elisabeth and Emma of Olathe, KS; two sisters, Patricia Dziewietin of Auburn, and Donna Layton of Leominster; a sister-in-law, Mary Pogorek of Worcester; nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.  James was predeceased by a brother, Walter Pogorek, Jr, and sister, Dorothy Wyne.

James loved playing cribbage, and could always be found watching the Red Sox, Patriots, Celtics or The Bruins. He was a member of St. Scholastica Parish and its Knights of Columbus where he served many years as financial secretary.  James had a huge heart, and bright smile, his greatest moments were those spent with Joanne.  She was his rock and his life.

At James request, funeral services and burial were held privately.  The MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St was honored to have assisted the family with arrangements.
