Inez L. “Mimi” (Boquist) Kennedy, 93, beloved wife of the late Derwin “Bud” Kennedy, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December 14, 2022, at The Meadows in Leicester. Born in Holden and raised in Rutland, she was a daughter of the late Carl and Edith (Montcalm) Boquist.

She will be lovingly missed and remembered by her daughter, Linda (Kennedy) Sweeney and her husband, Ken; her two sons, Douglas Kennedy with whom she lived and Jeffrey Kennedy and his fiance’ Kathy, all of Rutland; her two grandsons; four granddaughters; three great-granddaughters; as well as several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and her husband, Bud, she was predeceased by her brother, Carl E. Boquist, Jr.; a sister, Shirley E. Dickman; and her grandson, Scott Kennedy.

Inez was an active member of the First Congregational Church of Rutland where she belonged to the Sunshine Club and sang in the church choir for most of her life. She began singing at the age of twelve and sang with the Sweet Adelines of Worcester as an adult. She loved music and vintage musicals, and wrote and produces some local sows for various town celebrations as well as parade floats for the July 4th events for over 40 years.

She worked for many years with Kelley Services where she met some of her future employers. She continued her career as a paralegal with several Worcester area attorneys until her retirement well into her 70s. Prior to Kelley services and after her retirement she stayed busy with various part-time jobs, working into her 80s. When she wasn’t working or taking care of her family, she was volunteering, helping elderly relatives or teaching herself the piano or violin.

She will be greatly missed and always loved.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the First Congregational Church of Rutland, 264 Main Street, Rutland, MA 01543 or to a charity of one’s choice. Arrangements are private and under the care of Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street, Holden.
