Howard K Borggaard, 80, of Shrewsbury, Martha’s Vineyard and Naples, FL, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Jan 22, 2022. He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Jeanne I. (Steele) Borggaard, his son Bruce Aslanian and partner Kimberly Santana and their children Bruce Jr, Robert and Savannah; daughter Karin (Aslanian) Houghton and her husband Christopher Houghton and their children Lukas and Camden; son James Aslanian; son Jeffery Borggaard and his wife Lisette Zeitsman; daughter Diane Borggaard and her partner Ross Lane; daughter Laurie (Borggaard) Smith and her husband, Karl Smith and her children Joseph and Spencer Borggaard; son Andrew Borggaard and his children Austin and Andrew; and many nieces, nephews and grand-nieces and grand-nephews.

He was predeceased by his parents Howard L and Mildred (Keans) Borggaard, his sister Jean (Borggaard) Keller and his grandson Brad Borggaard.

Howard was born in Worcester, MA and graduated from North High School and the University of Massachusetts.

The son of a farmer, Howard spent many hours working on the farm and in the field where he developed his love for gardening, landscaping and “playing” in the dirt. Howard went on to start his own business, Borggaard Construction Corp. where he was affectionally known as the “Dirt Doctor”.

He was a member of the Martha’s Vineyard Agricultural Society, The Farm Institute, the Martha’s Vineyard Parkinson’s Group, the Mediterra Men’s Fellowship Group, and the Masonic Lodge.

Howard’s pleasant personality was contagious to everyone he met. He leaves behind so many family members and friends who appreciated his kindness, generosity, simplicity, easy laugh and dedication to those he loved. He was a devoted husband, loving father, adored grandfather, and friend. He is the foundation of his family.

Howard was an avid gardener, fisherman, boater and golfer. He particularly loved hockey and watching his sons and grandchildren play. He will be sorely missed by all who knew and loved him.

Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend visiting hours at the Chiampa Funeral Home, 5 Church Road, On the Common, Shrewsbury Center, on Thursday 27, 2022 from 4-7pm. To ensure the safety for all, face covering is kindly requested. Funeral services and interment will be held privately for immediate family only.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Howard’s honor can be made to The Michael J Fox Foundation, PO Box 5014, Hagerstown, MD 21741-5014. http://www.michaeljfox.org/donate
