Reverend Herbert M. Jones, 69 of Worcester, was called home by the Lord on Thursday, February 22, 2024.

Reverend Jones affectionately known by many as “Poojack” was born in Suffolk, Virginia on March 12, 1954, to his late parents Herbert and Mary (Fuzz) Minton. He moved to Worcester in his youth and later attended Worcester Boys Trade where he was an exceptional athlete and excelled in football and basketball. It was during that time he met and later married his beloved wife of 50 years, Louise E. (Price) Jones.

Rev. Jones enlisted in the United States Navy in 1972 serving his country as a medic and was honorably discharged in 1978 and was a proud recipient of the National Defense Service Medal.  After leaving the Navy, Herbert was an electrician with Worcester’s IBEW Local 96 for many years. He later used those skills and his gifts to enlighten and uplift the youth at Grafton Job Corps where he was the lead electrical instructor for Home Builders Institute (HBI) until he retired in 2020.

The only thing Rev. Jones loved more than his wife and family was the Lord. Rev. Jones was a dedicated member of Belmont A. M. E. Zion Church where he was the president of the Usher board, a Trustee, and member of the Steward board until he answered the call to ministry and was ordained a minister in the A. M. E. Zion Church and proudly served as head pastor of Stanley Chapel from June of 2016 until his sunset February 22, 2024.

Honored to forever cherish his memories are his adoring wife, Louise Jones; his five children, Alisha (Jones) Troxel and her husband Sean of San Diego, CA., Heather (Jones) Nelson of Windsor, CT., Yolanda (Jones) McFarlane and her husband Neil of Hadley, MA., Tara L. (Jones) Harmon and her husband Jovan of Los Angeles, CA., and his only son, DeShawn Herbert Jones.   Blessed with twelve grandchildren, Aaron, Ashleigh, Tyler, Morgan, Nia, Madison, Adrell Jr, Andrew, Amya, Allie, Trayce and Jones as well as four great grandchildren.  He is also survived by a sister, Sandra Fleuran, a sister-in- law, Dorothy Jones and a host of loving nieces, nephews and many treasured friends.   The youngest son of seven children, Herbert was predeceased by his brothers, Henry Jones, Ulysses Jones, Curtis Jones and Harry Jones and his sister Sylvia Watson.

Relatives and friends are invited to a period of calling hours on Thursday, February 29, 2024 from 9-11 am followed by a funeral service at 11:00 am at Belmont A.M.E. Zion Church, 55 Illinois St., Worcester.   Burial will follow in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to: Stanley Chapel AME Zion, 74 Spring St., Willimantic, CT. 06226
