Gloria L. (Morse) Hopewell, 92, longtime Worcester resident, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, September 26, 2022 at UMASS Memorial Medical Center – University Campus.

She was the proud matriarch of her large family, to whom she was lovingly known as “Ma.” Gloria leaves her beloved children: Donna Jandrow and her husband Phil, of Worcester, Elizabeth “Liz” Karpowich, of Douglas, Robin Menard, of Worcester, Tina Crooke and her husband Les, of Jacksonville, FL, Michelle Jakubiak and her fiancé Mark Gustafson, of Worcester, Russ Lekas and his wife Phyllis, of Northbridge, Anthony Lekas and his wife Karen, of Rutland, and her son-in-law, Frank E. Lewicki, of Worcester; her many grandchildren, great-grandchildren; her sisters, Carol Phillips, of Norfolk, VA, Glenda Mansker, of St. Louis, MO, and Shirley Kibbe, of Worcester; along with many nieces and nephews.

Gloria was predeceased by her loving husband, Andrew C. Hopewell, who passed in 1985; and their daughter, Gloria L. Lewicki, who passed in 2021.

She was born in Marlborough, to the late Charles E. Morse and Elizabeth R. (Henries), and attended the Marlborough and Worcester schools. Gloria met her beloved Andrew and the pair settled in Leicester, before moving permanently to Worcester to raise their family. She was a welder, in her younger years, working for Parker Metal in Worcester.

Gloria was a wonderful homemaker, and was famous for her home-made treats, like her chocolate cake, lasagna, and, a family favorite, “Spaghetti Mondays.” She loved cooking and baking alike, especially during the holidays – Christmas, being her favorite to host.

She loved nature, and had the gift of a green thumb; Gloria was able to grow anything and everything. She also loved watching the wildlife, especially her cardinals.

Gloria was an Elder of the local Nipmuc Tribe, and was very proud of her native heritage. She will be deeply missed by all who loved and respected her.

Relatives and friends are invited to visit with the Hopewell family between 9:30 and 11 AM on Friday, September 30, 2022 at the BRITTON-WALLACE FUNERAL HOME, 91 Central St., Auburn. Her funeral service will follow at 11:30 AM at All Saints Church, 10 Irving St., Worcester, and burial will be held in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton.
