Subscription Update Obituary

   Geraldine E. (Blokland) Majcher, 85, of Shrewsbury, passed away peacefully, Saturday, July 12th, in the Rose Monahan Hospice Residence. Geraldine’s husband of 57 years, Thaddeus “Ted” A. Majcher, passed away in 2000.

   She is survived by her devoted daughters, Susan S. Sachs and her partner Arthur Sachse, of Holden, Wendy K. O’Connor and her husband James O’Connor, Jr. of Shrewsbury, Robin A. Majcher and her partner Karen Wentworth of Oakham; five grandchildren, Stephanie Nunes, Patrick O’Connor, David and Justin Sachs, and Ryan O’Connor. A brother, Fredrick Blokland, predeceased her. Geraldine was born in Boston, the daughter of Cornelius and Cornelia (Van Dinther) Blokland. She grew up in Worcester, graduated from Commerce High and lived in Shrewsbury more than 25 years before residing at Dodge Park Rest Home in Worcester.

   Geraldine worked as a teller for the former Mechanics Bank many years before retiring. She was also a clerk at the former Fannie Farmer Candy Store.

   The funeral will be held Tuesday, July 15th from the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St. with a mass at 11:00 a.m. in St. John’s Church, 40 Temple St. Burial will be in Worcester County Memorial Park in Paxton. A period of calling hours will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, prior to the funeral. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Rose Monahan Hospice Residence, c/o the VNA Hospice, 120 Thomas St. 01608. The Majcher family would like to thank the entire staff at Dodge Park Rest Home, for loving and taking care of our Mother these past two years. We would additionally like to thank Dr. Meade and the Rose Monahan Hospice Staff for their love and compassion this past week. This Hospice is truly a little piece of heaven on earth.
