Subscription Update Obituary

     Geraldine “Dean” E. Hansen, 72, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family, at UMass Memorial Medical Center – University Campus on Monday, January 9, 2017. She was born in Worcester, daughter of Enis G. (Johnson) and Jens K. Hansen. She was a graduate of South High School Class of 1962. During her years working in the Goddard Library at Clark University, Dean enrolled and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree, graduating with the Class of 1991. Dean enjoyed many friendships, had a great sense of humor, and loved to laugh. She enjoyed restoring and reupholstering furniture, chair caning, and rug hooking. Above all, she loved spending time with her grandchildren. Dean was also a regular volunteer at the Bay State Equine Rescue in Oakham.

She leaves two sons, Leo (Jeanne) Burgess of Worcester and Kevin (Jennifer) Hansen of CT; 2 brothers, Hans (Jean) Hansen of CA and Philip Hansen of Worcester; 1 sister, Phyllis Hansen of Worcester; 5 grandchildren, Jocelyn Bonyani, Jens Hansen, Freja Hansen, Monique Burgess, and Julia Hansen; and many nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be held at Nordgren Memorial Chapel on Thursday, January 12, from 5-7pm. The funeral service will be held at Nordgren’s on Friday, January 13, at 11:00am. Burial will follow in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society or to Bay State Equine Rescue, 415 Hunt Road, Oakham, MA 01068.
