Subscription Update Obituary

George R. Smith, 91, of Westborough, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 26, 2011 at the Westborough Healthcare Center. He was the husband of Beatrice L. (Boulay) Smith.

Born in Worcester, he was the son of the late George F. and Evelyn (Ellstrom) Smith and was educated in Worcester schools.

During WW II he served with the U.S. Navy attaining the rank of Gunner’s Mate, First Class.

George was employed as a steelworker for U.S. Steel in Worcester prior to his retirement. He was an avid golfer and a former member of the Westborough Country Club.

In addition to his wife he is survived by two sons, Bruce R. Smith of Abbot, Maine and Alan G. Smith of Haines City, FL; one daughter, Carol L. Negoshian of Haines City, FL; a niece, Ellen Kilmer and a nephew, Richard Kilmer both of Worcester; seven grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. He was the brother of the late Carol Kilmer.

His funeral service will be held on Friday, October 28, at 10:00 A.M. in the Rand-Harper-Pickering Westborough Funeral Home, 62 West Main St., Westborough. Burial, with military honors, will follow in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton. There are no calling hours.

In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to St. Luke the Evangelist Church Memorial Fund, 70 West Main St., Westborough, MA 01581.
