Gail F. (Bates) Hicks, 78, died peacefully under the care of her loving family on Tuesday, May 11, 2021. She was born in Worcester, the daughter of David C. and Winifred F. (Stockhaus) Bates and had lived in Holden for many years.

Gail will be lovingly missed and remembered by her daughters, Michelle Hicks and her husband, Nicholas Trahadias of Worcester and Kimberley Hicks of Shrewsbury; her son, Christopher Hicks and his wife, Elizabeth of Dunnellon, FL; her brother, Paul Bates of Haskell, NJ; her sister, Patricia Girouard of Paxton; five nephews and one niece. She was predeceased by her brother, David Bates.

Gail grew up in Holden and graduated from Wachusett High School. With a passion to help others, Gail pursued a career at Holden Hospital as Office Manager and later as Secretary to the President. She later worked at AdCare Educational Institute for over 30 years. Gail was an incredible baker and cook who loved to share her food with everyone. She was an avid gardener who created eye-catching, colorful gardens. She also loved walks with her beloved dog, LucyLu and greeting friends and neighbors along the way.

Gail never wanted to be the center of attention, so her services will be private for immediate family. Friends wishing to honor Gail are invited to make a donation in her name to St. Jude Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or American Cancer Society, 30 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01701. Arrangements are under the care of Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main St., Holden.
