Francis L. Smaltz, 87, passed away on July 6, 2015. He was preceded in death by his wife, Irene (Socha) Smaltz. Born in Worcester, he was the son of Anna (Paplauskas) and Frank Smaltz. Following high school, Francis enlisted as an Apprentice Seaman in the United States Coast Guard. He served proudly for 3 years during WWII and upon his honorable discharge, he had attained the rank of Fireman 1st Class. He was a truck driver for the plumbing supply industry for many years.

His greatest passion was his family – especially his grandchildren. He is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Paul and Stephanie Smaltz and David and Kim Smaltz; a daughter and son-in-law, Joanne and Frank DiPilato; and nine beloved grandchildren, Sara, Daniel, Joshua, Jennifer, Olivia, Kayla, Hannah, Dylan, and Kerstin. A sister, Dorothy (Smaltz) Rivard, preceded him in death.

At Fran’s request, funeral services by Nordgren Memorial Chapel, 300 Lincoln Street were private. Burial was in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton.
