Subscription Update Obituary

    F. Herbert Nichols, 88, of Worcester, died Monday, August 24 at St. Francis Home. He leaves his wife of 59 years, Elsie M. (Johnson) Nichols; six children, Robert F. Nichols of Worcester, Richard A. Nichols of Tulsa, OK, Joyce N. Mara, wife of James, of Sterling, Judith E. LaJoie, wife of Ronald, of Worcester, Roger T. Nichols of Virginia Beach, VA, and Janet L. Puckett of Sturbridge; a brother, George E. Nichols and his wife Jeanne of Norfolk, MA; a sister-in-law, Eileen Nichols of Hopedale; ten grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by two brothers, Lawrence and Wilfred Nichols.

    He was born in Hopedale, son of George and Marion (Gould) Nichols and has lived here most of his life. He graduated from Boys Trade High School in Worcester. Mr. Nichols was owner and operator of Luce Package Delivery for over 20 years. He was a member of the Greendale Retired Men's Club. He was a 58-year member of Park Congregational Church, where he served many roles, including church custodian, trustee, deacon, and usher. He was also treasurer of the Park Congregational Fellowship and chairman of the mission committee.

    The funeral will be held Friday, August 28 at 10:00 am in the Davis Chapel at First Baptist Church, 111 Park Ave. Burial will be private. Calling hours are Thursday, August 27 from 5:00 to 8:00 pm at RICE FUNERAL HOME, 300 Park Ave. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Park Congregational Sunday School, 111 Park Ave, Worcester, MA 01609.
