Subscription Update Obituary

Emilia Medina, formerly of Worcester, Massachusetts, age 91, passed away peacefully on Monday, April 20, 2026 at the Oakdale Rehabilitation & Skilled Nursing Center in West Boylston. Born in Carolina, Puerto Rico, she was the daughter of the late Modesto Medina and Maria Encarnacion.

Emilia spent her younger years in Puerto Rico. When she was 20, her family moved to Long Island for many years before moving to Massachusetts. In 1973, she began working at City Hospital in Worcester, where she worked for 18 years in the cafeteria. She worked briefly at Allegro MicroSystems before finishing her career at UMass Medical Center – University Campus, where she retired in 2000.

She was known as a hard-working independent woman with a strong work ethic. After retiring, she volunteered for many years at Radius Nursing Home where she loved keeping busy and helping others.

Above all, her family meant everything to her.

She will be lovingly missed by her son Johnny Gomez and his wife, Mary Garabedian-Gomez, her son Julio Gomez that pre deceased her, daughter Lillian Ortiz, and son Jose Ortiz; her brother Domingo and wife Gladys Medina. She leaves her grandchildren Tania, David, Dana, Taina, Antonio, and several great grandchildren as well as several nieces and nephews.

Special thanks to Medina family of Worcester for their love and support for her all these years.

Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Emilia’s family from 10:00 am to 11:00 am on Wednesday, April 29, at the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main St., Holden, followed by a funeral service at 11:00 am at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Worcester County Memorial Park, 217 Richards Ave., Paxton.
