Subscription Update Obituary

Elliott Virginia (Workman) Curry, 95, of Worcester, daughter of the late, Ezra and Janie (McClough) Workman, born in Gastonia, North Carolina on April 11, 1927.

Her husband, Staff Sergeant Calvin C. Curry, Jr., U.S. Army, died in 1966.  She leaves to mourn her passing, a son, James A. Watson of Sanford, FL; seventeen grandchildren, Cassandra E. Smith, Tyrone, Harry, and Tyra Walker, Ramona G. Burns, Darnella Dee Dee Williams, Brian and Willie Watson, Shiela Givins, Terence, Marc, and David Nevins, Kyle and Tiyika Minton, Candice Beckham, Katlyn Watson, and Shaun Walker; many great grandchildren, several great greatgrandchildren.  Virginia was proceeded by her best friend, Clementine Jones aka “Ms.Clem”. She was also predeceased by three daughters, Jeanette M. Walker, Alice D. Watson, and Jarvis E. Gresham.  She was also predeceased by two brothers and a sister, Ezra and Doward Workman and Jenny Workman.

Virginia, as she was known, worked in the early sixties at Worcester State Hospital as a ward attendant.  She also worked at Barnette’s on Main Street, tagging clothing.  She then moved to Germany with her husband, later returning to Worcester and began working in the Worcester Public School Department.  She started as a secretary and worked her way into becoming a teacher’s assistant.  She worked at several schools, including, Sullivan Middle, Harrington way, and later South High School, from where she retired.  She was a member of the D.A.R.E. Program.  She was a member of Second Baptist Church.

Calling Hours will be on Tuesday morning, December 20, from 10 a.m. until her Funeral Service begins at 12 Noon in MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation Street, Worcester.  Interment will follow at Worcester County Memorial Park in Paxton.
