Subscription Update Obituary

     Elizabeth “Betty” M. (Legor) Stranieri, 79, of Worcester died peacefully, Wednesday April 13, 2016 in the Rose Monahan Residence surrounded by her loving family. Betty leaves her loving husband of 60 years Joseph J. Stranieri, her devoted children; Judith A. Padavano and her husband Dr. John Padavano of Scarborough ME., Gina L. Picard and her husband Peter of Riverview FL., E. Tracie Ritchie and her husband James of Worcester. She was the doting grandmother to Erin, Nicholas, Lauren, Christina, Matthew, Taylor, Brendan, and seven great grandchildren. Betty is also survived by her two brothers, Patrick Legor and his companion Carol of Grafton, and Joseph Legor and his wife of Joanne of Worcester, her three loving sisters, Claire Goulet, of Sutton, Shirley Goulet and her husband Paul and Jean Violante and her husband Raymond all of Worcester, and many nephews and nieces. Betty was predeceased by two sisters, Eleanor Bechard and Joan Shooshan.

Elizabeth was born in Worcester daughter of the late Arthanas and Elizabeth (Breen) Grigor and lived here all her life. She was a graduate of Commerce High School. Betty worked at the former Big Y Super Market as a cashier for many years before she retired. Previous to that she worked at the iconic Scano’s Bakery on Hamilton street for many years where she made numerous friends and loved working there and socializing with people. She loved to travel, cook, and really enjoyed a good shopping day! But her most treasured times were when she was with her husband, children, and grandchildren and great grandchildren. She had a zest for life and wonderful personality that will be greatly missed by her family and friends. Betty was a lifetime member of the Church of St. Stephen.

Betty’s funeral will be held on Saturday April 16, 2016 from the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL 370 Plantation St. with a Mass of Christian burial at 9:00AM in the Church of St. Stephen 357 Grafton St. Family and friends are invited to calling hours for Betty from 5PM to 7PM on Friday in the funeral home. Interment will be in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to St Jude Children’s Hospital 501 St Jude Place Memphis, TN. 38105, or on line at donors@stjude.org.
