Edward J. Burnell, 91, of Jefferson, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Thursday, January 25, 2018. He was a son of the late Oscar and Anna (Laeder) Burnell.

Edward was born in Buchanan County, Waterloo, IA, and raised and educated in Illinois. Shortly after graduating from High School he enlisted in the United States Army and proudly served his country.  Upon his return from the service, he met and married the love of his life, Lois A. (Perkins) Burnell.  Ed was a farm worker until 1978 until beginning his career as a kiln operator for Norton Company until his retirement in 1992.  He was an avid reader and enjoyed working on jigsaw puzzles in his spare time.

He will be lovingly missed and remembered by his son, Edward J. Burnell II of Jefferson with whom he lived; his daughter, Aerial C. Ward of Worcester; his granddaughter, Debra Condon of West Boylston; two great-granddaughters, Alexis Condon of Holden and Summer Pearson of West Boylston; and his sister, Margaret Pudell of SC.  In addition to his beloved wife, he is predeceased by 6 brothers including, Harold, Harry, Howard, Louie, Dale and Robert; and a sister, Rose.

The family would like to extend their sincere appreciation to the staff at St. Vincent Hospital for the kind and compassionate care that was extended to them during this difficult time.

Ed will be laid to rest at Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton.  A private graveside service will be held at the convenience of the family.  Funeral arrangements are under the care of Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street, Holden.
