Subscription Update Obituary

    Edmund L. “Ed” Lindberg, 28, of Worcester, passed away on Friday morning, July 2, 2010 in UMass Hospital.

    He is survived by his mother, Ruth I. Lindberg of Worcester; his aunt, Sandra Nelson and her husband Robert of Sutton; his uncle, John Lindberg and his wife Donna of Clinton; three cousins, Brian and Todd Lindberg of Clinton and William Nelson of Sutton; his surrogate dad, Joseph Coggans of Millbury; and many loyal co-workers and friends. He was predeceased by his aunt, Janice Dupre in 2009.

    Ed was born and grew up in Worcester and graduated from Worcester South High School in 2000. He enlisted in the United States Navy that same year where he was Gunner’s Mate Second Class. His enlistment included a tour of duty in the Persian Gulf. In 2004, when his tour concluded, he joined the United States Naval Reserve, and was an active member of the Sea Bees, serving in Iraq. He was fiercely proud of his country. He was currently working as a Correctional Officer at the Worcester County House of Correction.

    He had an engaging personality that earned him many, many friends. He will be greatly missed by family, friends and co-workers. He was a Harley Davidson enthusiast, Red Sox fan and held a Black Belt in Karate.

    Calling hours for Ed will be held on Tuesday, July 6, from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. in MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation Street, Worcester. His Funeral Service, with Military Honors will be held on Wednesday, July 7, at 10 a.m. in Wesley United Methodist Church, 114 Main Street, Worcester, with his Pastor, Caroline Wiggins from Quinsigamond United Methodist Church officiating. Interment will follow in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton.

    In lieu of flowers, donations in his honor and memory may be made to The Red Sox Foundation and Massachusetts General Hospital’s, Home Base Program in care the Red Sox Foundation, 4 Yawkey Way, Boston, MA 02215 or the Massachusetts Veterans Shelter, 69 Grove Street, Worcester, MA 01605.
