Earl R. Fitch, 87, of Borkum Rd., died Saturday, Jan. 17 in St. Vincent Hospital, Worcester.

He was the husband of Penelope F. (Phifield) Fitch who died in 2012. He leaves two daughters, Carol Sitterly and her husband Scott of West Brookfield, and Paula Fitch Proctor and her husband Wayne of Spencer, a brother Paul Fitch and his wife Audrey of West Brookfield, four grandchildren Beth and Brent Sitterly, Jeffrey and Adam Fitch Proctor, and four great grandchildren.

Prior to retirement, Earl was employed as a truck driver. For many years, he worked as a tank truck driver at Hillcrest Dairy in Worcester where he picked milk up at local farms to be delivered back to the dairy. Having moved from Canada to Worcester as a youth, he felt it was his duty to serve his new country during WWII. He joined the United States Navy and shortly after became a U.S. citizen. Earl was a plank owner on the USS Cone.

He was born in Italy Cross, Lunenburg County, Nova Scotia, the son of Clyde F. and Laura M. (Fancy) Fitch and lived most of his life in Spencer. Earl was a quiet, reserved and humble man, well respected by all who knew him and much loved by family and friends. He will be sadly missed.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. in the MORIN FUNERAL HOME, 1131 Main St., Leicester on Friday, Jan. 23, 2015. Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton.
