Subscription Update Obituary

Earl L. Bengtson, 93, of Spencer, died peacefully at home on Wednesday, May 18th, surrounded by family.

He leaves his wife of 63 years, Jeannine A. (Young) Bengtson; his sons, David C. Bengtson (Sheila) of Centennial, CO, Paul E. Bengtson of Glastonbury, CT., Mark R. Bengtson (Kim Purcell) of E. Brookfield, MA, and Peter R. Bengtson (Christine) of Sandwich,MA; grandchildren, Olivia, Emily and Tim Bengtson of Sandwich, Anikka Bengtson of Centennial, CO., Katie Bengtson of Glastonbury, CT., Ryan and Hayley Purcell of E.Brookfield, Brittany Molloy of Spencer, Henry and Elliott Young of Ardsley, NY, and several nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his sisters Dorothy Reid and Ruth Adams.

Earl was born in Worcester, MA, the son of Harry and Elvira Bengtson. He grew up in the Quinsigamond Village area of Worcester, where he graduated from South High School and Worcester Junior College. While attending Worcester Junior, he captained the baseball team. Earl also attended Boston University. During the Korean War, he proudly served in country with the U.S. Army 45th Infantry Division. He traveled the world as a Sales Engineer for Micro Abrasives (Westfield, MA) for many years and retired in 1994.

Earl was an avid golfer and longtime member of the Growlers and Massasoit Golf Leagues and an active member of the Lions Club. He coached his sons in Spencer Minor League and Little League baseball and was a devoted high school and college sports fan. Earl was a Civil War history buff and an enthusiastic fan of big band, swing, and jazz music.

A Memorial Service for Earl will be held on Thursday, May 26th. at 11 a.m. in the J.HENRI MORIN & SON FUNERAL HOME, 23 Maple Terrace., Spencer. Visitation will precede the service from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Burial with Military Honors will follow in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton.
