Subscription Update Obituary

   Donald R. Dodds, 76, of Shrewsbury, died Saturday, February 14th, 2009 from a long illness at home surrounded by his loving family.

   Donald leaves behind his loving wife of 53 years, Carol A. (Smith) Dodds; daughters, Dorothy Radcliffe-Bates and her husband, Bryan of Spencer, Gail Bernier and her husband, Richard of Manchaug; a son, Thomas Dodds and his wife, Jane of Barre. Known as Papa he also leaves six grandchildren, Thomas and Kimberly Bernier, Mindy Haynes, Christina DeJoinville, Heidi Proulx and Thomas Dodds Jr.; seven great grandchildren, Jonathan, Erika, Melissa, Freddie, Abby, Alex and Violet. A brother, Robert Dodds and his wife, Shirley of Las Vegas; two sisters, Jo Ellen Ford of Iowa and Rosemary Anderson of Las Vegas and several nieces and nephews.

   He was born in Bluegrass, Iowa son of the late Thomas L. and Ester C. (Mounts) Dodds and had lived in Shrewsbury for the past 41 years. Donald rose to the rank of Chief and was a naval Korean War veteran and a man of great patriotic convictions.

   Donald had worked for over 20 years for the Data General Corporation before he retired in 1991. He was a proud member of the USS Worcester Association and the Victor R. Quaranta American Legion Post # 397.

   Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Mr. Dodds’ family on Monday, February 16th from 5-8 P.M. in the Britton Funeral Home, 648 Main Street, Shrewsbury. His funeral service will be held on Tuesday, February 17th at 10 A.M. in the funeral home. Burial with military honors will follow in Worcester County Memorial Park Paxton.
