David Paul (Yankus), 59 of Virginia Beach, VA, died Thursday, January 28, 2021 at Virginia Beach Health Care and Rehab after a courageous battle with cancer. Born July 9, 1961 and raised in Worcester, he was the son of David A. Yankus and Katherine (Splaine) and Roger Nielsen.

David attended Burncoat Senior High School and served in the United States Air Force. He took pride in being Sergeant-at-Arms for more than 10 years with the Marine Corp League and was a member of the Aragona Moose Lodge, both of Virginia Beach. He found great joy organizing and was proud of the contributions made to Toys for Tots each year; loving the run. When not working, previously as a truck driver and most recent a cook at Pinboy’s At the Beach, he devoted most of his time to helping those in need, giving of himself whatever he could to help make life for others even just a little bit easier. He was extremely kind and funny and everyone’s friend. He loved living on his boat “Puppy Love”, the ocean, the music of the 70’s, walking, dry jokes, beer, slushies, peanut butter taffy, pretty ladies, dreaming and Snoopy. He always sent Hallmark cards signing with the sentiment “I care enough.”

He leaves his sisters, Margaret Seligman (Alan) and Mary Cook (Steven), of Holden and Betsey Kostrzeba (Jeff) of Worcester; his nephew, Eric and nieces, Kristen, Amy, Anna, Emily and Rachel. He also leaves his fiance, Sandy Calhoun of Virginia, many aunts, uncles and cousins. He was predeceased by his parents, a sister, Rogetta K. Boden and a brother, Michael C. Nielsen.

A memorial service and internment of David’s ashes will be laid to rest with his Dad and will be held in July at Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton.

Memorial donations may be made in David’s name to the Marine Corp League John A. Lejeune Detachment 332, PO Box 61462, Virginia Beach, VA 23462. Dave’s final salutation to all (with a nod to John Denver): “Farm Out.”
