Subscription Update Obituary

David L. Johnson, Sr., 93, passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 24, 2024 at UMASS Memorial Medical Center. He leaves his wife of 69 years, Shirley (Brown) Johnson; a son David Johnson Jr. of Worcester; a daughter Sheila Williams and her husband Peter of North Grafton; 2 grandchildren- Jodi Spokis and her husband Nick of Worcester and Sean Williams of Shrewsbury; 4 great-grandchildren- Nicholas, Nathan, Nyles, and Olivia; a brother Jack Johnson of Maine; a sister Donna Johnson Flagg of Maine and Florida; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by siblings Harold Johnson and Shirley McGrath, and his stepfather Charles Paine.

David was born in Gardner, son of the late Sulo Johnson and Impi (Nivala) Johnson Paine. He graduated from Boys Trade High School and proudly served his country in the US Marine Corps during the Korean Conflict. He worked as a tool and die maker for the former Norton Company and Warner Swasey Co. He was a 32 degree Mason, a former member of the Marine Corp League and a member of the Vernon Hill American Legion Post 435. He enjoyed golfing, vacationing in Florida, and spending time with family and friends.

A graveside service and burial will be held on Wednesday, March 6, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton. Nordgren Memorial Chapel 300 Lincoln St. Worcester, MA 01605 is assisting the family with arrangements. In lieu of flowers, donations in David’s memory may be made to St. Jude.
