David G. Gilchrist, 62, of New Boston, NH, and formerly of Worcester, passed away unexpectedly in his home on Thursday, October 19, 2023.

David was born in Worcester, MA, son of the late Thomas F. Gilchrist Sr. and Barbara Ann (Morrow) Gilchrist. He is survived by his daughter, Rebecca J. Gilchrist of Worcester; two sisters, Sheila E. Gilchrist of New Boston, NH with whom he lived, and Faye T. Fafard and her husband, Michael of Stoddard, NH; His former longtime companion and mother of his daughter, Patricia Sullivan of Worcester and many nieces and nephews. He is also predeceased by a brother, Thomas Gilchrist Jr. and two sisters, Kathleen Gilchrist and Marilyn Gouin.

Mr. Gilchrist graduated from South High Community School and worked as a heating, ventilation, and air conditioning technician. He most recently worked for Pioneer Oil and previously worked McDonald Heating, Holden Heating and Agway Heating Company.

David was a former member of the Auburn Lodge of Elks #2118. He had a passion for working on cars, especially classic cars. Recently, he was thrilled that his cherry red 1971 GTO started after all his hard work. He could often be found playing a game of cards, reading the paper, or working on a crossword or wordsearch. David loved being outdoors, whether working on his lawn, relaxing on the beach, camping, or bicycling. He loved the annual family camping trips to Maine with Tricia and Becca, his sisters, and their families. He was a general Mr. Fix It and often lent a helping hand to so many people.

David was the baby of the family, and he shared a genuine bond with his older sisters. He always made sure Shelia came home to a well-lit yard and clear path to THE house, and he loved working with his hands to help Faye and her husband with the building of their new home. Most of all he enjoyed being with his daughter, Rebecca.

He would talk on the phone for hours with Bec. They would talk about school, both of their latest tinkering projects, and of course, how all the pets were doing. When they were together, you could find him at Hot Dog Annie’s, bowling, teaching Becca card games like gin rummy (and later losing to her), watching SpongeBob, or stopping at the Blockbuster with Tricia and Becca to pick out the movies they would watch later that night.

The funeral will be held from the Alfred Roy & Sons Funeral Home, 12 Hammond St. Worcester, on Monday, October 30, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 AM in Saint Peter’s Church, 929 Main St. Worcester. Burial will follow in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton. A calling hour will be held from 9:30 to 10:30 in the funeral home on Monday. Memorial contributions in memory of David may be made to the Worcester Animal Rescue League, 139 Holden St., Worcester, MA 01606.
