Daniel William Murphy, 74, passed away peacefully on April 9, 2026, at UMass Memorial Medical Center – University Campus after months of declining health.
Born to the late Daniel Oscar Murphy and Dorothy (St. Francis) Murphy, Daniel was a devoted family man, a loyal friend, and someone who truly cherished life’s simple pleasures.
He is survived by his loving partner, Susan Barrow, and was predeceased by his beloved wife, Susan (Brunelle) Murphy. He will be deeply missed by his children: Daniel W. Murphy Jr. and his wife Erica; Kyle D. Murphy and his partner Abigail McGhee; and Ryan D. Murphy. He was a proud grandfather to his cherished granddaughter, Ella Marie Murphy.
Daniel also leaves behind his brother, Richard Murphy and his wife Dianne, and his sister, Cynthia Murphy and her husband John Gonsalves. He is also survived by many beloved nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family.
Daniel enjoyed a full and active life. He loved camping, painting, golfing, gardening, and bowling, but above all, he treasured time spent with family and friends. Many fond memories were made during summers at Horseneck Beach and Friday nights spent laughing with friends at Funky Murphy’s.
A retired Project Manager from EMC, Daniel also had a passion for golf. He played in the Worcester Police Golf League and organized countless golf trips to Myrtle Beach and Cape Cod—trips filled with camaraderie, stories, and lasting friendships.
Daniel will be remembered for his warmth, his sense of humor, and the deep love he had for those around him. His presence will be greatly missed, but his memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend a period of visitation at the Chiampa Funeral Home, 5 Church Road, On the Common, Shrewsbury on Saturday, May 2nd, from 10:00 – 11:00 AM. Funeral service will follow. Interment will take place at Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton.
