Subscription Update Obituary

Claire M. (Maillet) Caissie, 90, formerly of Sturbridge and Worcester, died peacefully, with her husband by her side, on Friday, February 3, 2023 at Blaire House Worcester, 116 Houghton St.

She leaves her husband of 68 years, Sylvain J. Caissie; a daughter, Marguerite M. Herrie and her husband Alan of Sturbridge; three sons, Norman J. Caissie of Worcester, John J. Caissie and his wife Linda (Wilkinson) of Whitman, and Robert J. Caissie and his wife Sandra (Caprera) of Webster. She was predeceased in 2016 by a son, Gerard J. Caissie.  She also leaves 11 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.  She was predeceased by her 21 older brothers and sisters, Adelard, Alfred, Laurence, Ludovic, Regina, Elise, Pierre (Peter), Emile, Joseph, Flavien,  Fidel, Alfred, Arthur, Gerard, Medor, Frank, Emile, Jose, Fidel, Marguerite, and Patrick.  She was born in Rogersville, New Brunswick, Canada, daughter of Maxime and Eulalie (Aucoin) Maillet, and lived in Worcester since 1957 before moving to Sturbridge in 2003.

Mrs. Caissie worked in data entry for 15 years at the T.J. Maxx distribution center in Worcester, retiring in 1996.  She was a member of Notre Dame Church and very active in church events. She was involved in St. Vincent de Paul and received the Top Hat Award.  She was a Den Mother at Trinity Lutheran Church and a lunch lady at Elm Park Community School.  She was proud of her Acadian heritage and was proud of her grandchildren and great grandchildren carrying on those traditions.  She was very religious and family oriented.  She was active in the Franco-American Association of Our Lady of Assumption Shrine in Rogersville, New Brunswick, Canada.

A special thank you to the staff at Blaire House, who treated Claire like their own mother.

The funeral will be held Thursday, February 9, 2023, from Rice Funeral Home, 300 Park Ave, Worcester, with a Mass at 10:00 am at Our Lady of the Angels Church, 1222 Main St, Worcester.  Burial will be in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton.  Calling hours will be held Wednesday, February 8 from 4:00 – 6:00 pm at the funeral home.  In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Assumption Shrine in Rogersville, New Brunswick, Canada: L’Association de Monument, 2 rue St Joseph, Rogersville, NB, Canada E4Y2H2 or 86 Fiske Street, Waltham MA 02451 (c/o Ginette LeBlanc).
