Christine M. (Shliapa) Sandberg, 71, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 17, 2018, in Rose Monahan Hospice surrounded by her husband and two daughters after being unexpectedly stricken ill at home in June. Christine leaves her husband of 52 years, Richard M. Sandberg, two daughters, Melissa Haddad and her husband Richard of Hubbardston, Allyson Sandberg-Martin of Rutland, three grandchildren, Kathleen, Lauren and Brody, as well as many cousins, nieces, and nephews. She was predeceased by her mother, Mary E. Winsky in March of 2018, her step-father, Steven Winsky, her father, Walter F. Shliapa and her brother, Walter F. Shliapa, Jr.

Christine was born in Worcester, and graduated from Commerce High School. She dedicated her life to her husband, daughters and family. She was known as a beautiful woman, both inside and out. She shared her love for holidays and special occasions with family and friends. Upon Richard’s retirement, they enjoyed traveling to Florida during the winter and spending summers at Plum Island. Christine, who was strong in her faith and devout in her love, will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

The family would like to offer special thanks to the ICU staff at both St. Vincent’s and Brigham and Woman’s Hospitals as well as the staff at Rose Monahan Hospice who offered comfort and care to Christine and her family.

Calling hours will be held Saturday, July 21, 2018, from 8 – 9:30 AM in Nordgren Funeral Home, 300 Lincoln Street, Worcester. A funeral mass will follow at 10 AM at Our Lady of the Rosary Church, Fales Street, Worcester. Burial will follow in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made in Christine’s name to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
