Chester “Chet” Jankowski, 77, of Worester, MA passed away peacefully on June 6, in his home, after a period of declining health, with his loving family by his side. Chet was born in Worcester, to the late Chester J Jankowski, Sr and Sophie (Modzelewski) Jankowski.

He was a member of Saint Stephen’s Parish in Worcester. Chet was a graduate of Saint Mary’s High School in Worcester, MA. Following high school, he graduated from Worcester Junior College before earning his nursing degree from Worcester City Hospital. Chet worked his entire career, of more than 40 years, as a Registered Nurse at Saint Vincent hospital in Worcester, before retiring for health related reasons. Chet loved what he did, caring for his patients, while serving as a loyal member of the Saint Vincent Hospital Family. In addition to his work, Chet enjoyed the time he spent serving as an Assistant Scoutmaster for Troop 63. This was one of his favorite pastimes. In addition to the weekly meetings, he loved the yearly trips to Treasure Valley, and was so grateful he got to share all of these experiences with his son, Dan. Chet loved spending time deep sea fishing and packing up his trailer to head to Point Sebago in Maine, or to set up his yearly site at Normandy Farms in Foxborough. Back in his stronger days, Chet loved following Happy Louie’s Polka Band, attending their shows and grabbing his wife by the arm to spend the night polka dancing. Chet loved his bi-annual trips to Disney World in Florida. He was a known face, hitting up all the shops on the hunt for the latest and greatest Hidden Mickey pins, being the avid pin collector he was.

Chet is survived by his loving wife and best friend of fifty three years, Marsha (Wood) Jankowski. Chet leaves behind two children, his son, Daniel Jankowski and his wife, Beth, of Holden, and his daughter, Tara (Jankowski) Kirousis and her husband, Kyle, of Leominster. Chet leaves one sister, Janet (Jankowski) Chmielowiec and her husband John of Bethel, Connecticut. He leaves two granddaughters, Alison Jankowski and Emma Kirousis, whom he loved more than words can say. He also leaves behind his sweet pal, Lily, the puppy that consistently brought a smile to his face. Chet was predeceased by his first born son, Kevin many years ago.

The family would like to extend a warm gratitude to Dr. Debra Ford for not only her loyal care, but her kindness, respect and compassion. As well the warmest thanks and appreciation to Chet’s VNA nurse, Lisa, and physical therapist, Rick, who stopped at nothing to care for him, attending to all his needs, bringing warmth and comfort to him during such challenging times, as well as the VNA Hospice team for their unconditional compassion and care.

Visiting Hours will be Wednesday, June 9 at Callahan Fay Caswell Funeral Home, 61 Myrtle Street from 4 to 7 pm. A Funeral Mass will be held Thursday, June 10 at 10am in St. Stephen’s Church, 357 Grafton Street. The family has requested a private burial following the Funeral Mass. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you make a donation to the charity of your choice in Chet’s name.
