Charlotte Jane (Matthews) Hoogasian– passed away peacefully on Tuesday,March 28,2023. She had just celebrated her 99th birthday.

Charlotte leaves her daughter Linda Picard and her husband, Ray Picard, of Scotts Valley, CA and Donald J. Hoogasian Jr. of Auburn, MA; 6 grandchildren, Michael, Keith, Christopher, Amanda, Donyelle and Nicole; 3 great grandchildren, Tristan, Cole, and Helena. She is predeceased by her husband Donald J. Hoogasian Sr, and her youngest son Clifford B. Hoogasian.

She was born in Holden on March 15, 1924. She married Donald J, Hoogasian Sr. on October 8, 1943, and lived in Norfolk, VA where Donald Sr. was stationed. She lived most of her life in the Brookfield area. She first lived in East Brookfield, then spent the next 52 years in North Brookfield where she raised her 3 children. When her husband took ill, they moved to West Brookfield in 2002, and passed in Brookfield.

Charlotte lived a very busy life and certainly wasn’t a “stay-at-home-Mom.” In her early years she worked as a caterer. She then worked at United Lens for several years, and then for Cooke Optical. She was also a special education aid for the North Brookfield school for 10 years.

Charlotte could always be found sewing, baking, doing crafts, and tending to her many gardens. She could never walk past a garden no matter where she was without pulling up a weed if she saw it. Charlotte loved to watch Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy and never missed an episode.

She was a lifelong member and of the Sexton of Christ Memorial Church in North Brookfield and a member of the Ionic Chapter of the Eastern Stars of West Brookfield. She was also quite active in the North Brookfield, West Brookfield, and Scotts Valley Senior Centers.

At the age of 90 she took an adventurous step and moved across the country to live with her daughter and son-in-law in Scotts Valley, CA. She became actively involved with the San Agustin Catholic Church, The Altar Society, and St. Phillip’s Episcopal Church. After four years in Scotts Valley, she was getting homesick and returned to the Brookfields. Leaving many friends behind but remained in contact with them. When her health declined, she moved into the Quaboag Skilled Care and Rehab Center in West Brookfield where she previously worked as a CNA for 8 years.

Charlotte was very loved and will be greatly missed by so many. The family wishes to thank the nurses and staff at Quaboag Skilled Care and Rehab Center for their exceptional care.

Funeral services are private. Burial will be in Worcester County Memorial Park in Paxton. In lieu of flowers donations can be given in her memory to Christ Memorial Church 133 N. Main St, North Brookfield, MA 01535 or the charity of your choice.
