Charles F. McCarthy, Jr., 81, of Worcester, MA, passed away on May 17, 2023. Born to the late Charles F. and Alice (Skerrit) McCarthy, he was the beloved longtime companion of Diane Niford and cherished father of Kerry Ruby and her husband Alvvin and Erin McCarthy. He also leaves two grandchildren, Ava Butt and Maxwell Ruby, a sister, Rosemary Welch, a brother, Mark McCarthy and several nieces and nephews. Charles was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Barbara (Scaturro) McCarthy of 33 years, siblings Steven McCarthy, Kathy Tomaiolos and her husband Tony, and Louise O’Conner and her husband, Jack.

The “Mayor of Grafton Hill,” as we often called him, was a past President of Grafton Hillers. Charles enjoyed traveling with family and friends; he especially loved to visit Ogunquit Beach, Maine, Hampton Beach, the Green Harbor, and the west coast. He could be found competing in a game of cards or enjoying a round of golf. Most of all, he cherished his family and the time spent with them. Charles worked for National Envelope, where he retired after 36 years.

Charles’ funeral service will be held on Tuesday, May 23 at 11:00 am in the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation Street, Worcester, followed by interment in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton. Calling hours will be held from 9:30 am to 11:00 am in the funeral home before the service. In Lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be sent Alzheimer’s Association  at www.act.alz.org
