Carolyn R. (Cooper) Slongwhite, 91, died peacefully on Tuesday, August 8, 2017 at Overlook Masonic Home in Charlton. She was born in Worcester, the daughter of Harold and Amy (Peterson) Cooper and lived many years in Princeton, Rutland, Brookfield and Auburn before moving to Charlton over 10 years ago.
Carolyn graduated from Princeton High School with the class of 1943. She married the love of her life, the late Donald W. Slongwhite in 1944. The young couple lived in Princeton where Carolyn worked for RH Hamilton and Son in town for 16 years. She went on to work as Assistant Treasurer for Rutland Heights Hospital, retiring in 1984. Carolyn was a long time member of the First Congregational Church of Princeton where she sang in the Choir and served as a Deaconess. After moving to Auburn, Carolyn became a member of the First Congregational Church of Auburn. While living in Auburn she also volunteered reading to elementary school children. Her loving and caring spirit lives on through her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Carolyn was predeceased by her loving husband of 71 years, Donald W. Slongwhite in 2015. She leaves her daughters, Marcia L. Siart of Greenville, SC and Linda E. Babineau of Princeton; her sister, Elaine C. Ives of Suffield, CT; her grandchildren, Christine Korol and her husband, Jason of Greere, SC, LeeAnne Siart of Durham, NC and Kevin Babineau and his wife, Meaghann of Sterling; three great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. Carolyn was also predeceased by her brother, Rev. Harold F. Cooper and her sister, Corrine Dodge.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend calling hours from 3 to 5 p.m. on Sunday, August 20, 2017 at Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street, Holden. A Funeral Service will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Monday, August 21st at the Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Worcester County Memorial Park, 217 Richards Ave., Paxton. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Overlook Hospice Services, Davenport Building, 88 Masonic Home Rd., 2nd Floor, Charlton, MA 01507.
