Carolyn A. Grenier, 80, of Worcester, MA passed away peacefully with family by her side on August 23, 2023, at Notre Dame Long Term Care in Worcester, after a short period of declining health. She was the beloved wife of 63 years of James Grenier, and the loving mother of Patricia Stankiewicz (Chuck) of North Carolina, James Grenier (Janet) of Virginia, Stephen Grenier (Annmarie) of New Jersey; and cherished Nana of grandchildren Kristen, Kathryn, Charlie, Jessica, Constance, James, Kimberly, Nicholas, Patrick and Molly; great-grandchildren Gianna, Sofiya, Christopher, Anya, Ava and Daniel and many special others who called her “Nana.” She also leaves her siblings, Paul, Richard and Patricia. Along with her parents, Samuel and Hazel (Chase) Serra, she was preceded in death by her siblings Samuel, Michael, Dennis, David, Stephen, Rosalie, Diane, Joyce, and Marie.

Carolyn was a loving and passionate person, as evidenced in her career and family life.  She worked for many years as a nurse at Worcester State Hospital and was a labor union organizer and activist. She was the emcee of the Columbus Day Parade in Worcester for over 20 years and was involved in local and state politics, which led her to run for State Representative. More than anything, she loved and adored her family. Her heart was filled with joy when sharing her talent of cooking, music, storytelling and will always be “queen of the butterflies and fairies”.

A period of calling hours will be held on Wednesday, August 30, from 9:00 am until 10:30 am in the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation Street Worcester. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, August 30 at 11:00 am at St. Stephen’s Parish, Hamilton Street, Worcester, leaving in procession from the funeral home. Burial will be private in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton.
