Subscription Update Obituary

Carl B. Harris Jr. passed away peacefully at home with his loving family by his side on Saturday, August 19, 2023. He was 82. Born in Worcester on May 30, 1941, Carl was the son of Carl B. Harris Sr. and Myrtle R. (Frew) Harris. And lived the last 55 years in Rutland.

Carl was raised in Worcester and Boylston and graduated from Worcester Boys Trade High School in 1959 with a concentration in machines. After graduating high school, Carl enlisted in the United States Navy and proudly served on the USS Intrepid CVA-11 from 1961 to 1963. He was a 3rd Class Petty Officer Aviation Ordnanceman. After leaving the Navy, he came home and married the love of his life, Linda A Vaudreiul on September 7, 1963. He returned to school and graduated from Worcester Junior College with a degree in Tooling Engineering. He then went to work in the metal stamping industry for the next fifteen years.

In addition to this, Carl was also a police officer for the town of Rutland. During this time, he also graduated from WPI-SIM. After his many years in the metal stamping industry, he started his own sales business representing a variety of manufacturing companies and is credited with various patented designs. He did this until the age of 70 when he retired.

Carl and Linda have a big interest in anything to do with old and classic cars. Carl built and drove cars for drag racing. Later in life, he had a big interest in muscle cars and street rods.

He belongs to the National Street Rod Association, the Old Car Club in Worcester and North County Street Rods in Westminster.

In recognition of his time served on the USS Intrepid CVA-11, he was presented with a Seat of Honor. He is one of the 375 people with this honor.

Carl will be lovingly remembered and missed by his wife of 60 years, Linda A. (Vaudreuil) Harris; two daughters, Beth T. Harris and her three sons, Michael, Ryan, and Evan Burns; Lisa B. Paakkonen and her husband Matti and their son, Harris Paakkonen.

Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Carl’s family from 5 to 7 pm on Thursday, August 24, at Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main St., Holden. A funeral service celebrating his life will be held at 10 am on Friday, August 25 at the First Congregational Church of Rutland, 264 Main St., Rutland. Interment will follow at Worcester County Memorial Park in Paxton with military honors. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the First Congregational Church of Rutland, 264 Main St, Rutland, MA 01543
