Subscription Update Obituary

     Berwell F. ‘Lefty’ Ewing, 95, formerly of Holden, died on Monday, December 22, 2014, at Saint Vincent Hospital. He was born in Harmony, NS, Canada, son of the late Percy B. and Harriet B. (Crocker) Ewing.

Lefty attended Worcester schools and graduated from Commerce High School. He served in the US Army during World War II. He was injured during the battle of Anzio and was awarded a Purple Heart Medal. Upon returning home, Lefty began a 30 year career with Reed Rolled Die and Thread in Holden, until his retirement in 1982. Following his retirement Lefty became a bus driver for McCarthy Bus and also worked as driving instructor. He was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church, Worcester

Lefty’s beloved wife Louise M. (French) died in 1991. He was also predeceased by his brother, Raymond Ewing and his sister, Mildred Benson. He leaves his five nieces and nephews, Roy A. Benson, Jr. and his wife, Priscilla of Shrewsbury, Barbara J. Crocker and her husband, David of Northbridge, Janet E. Wendell of York, ME, Alan Ewing and his wife, Bonnie of Endicott, NY and Linda Ewing of Forest, VA; as well as many grandnephews and grandnieces.

A private funeral service for ‘Lefty’ will be held at Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street, Holden. Burial with military honors will be in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton. Memorial donations may be sent Wesley United Methodist Church, 114 Main Street, Worcester, MA 01609.
