Subscription Update Obituary

Barbara J. (Ekeroth) Sterner-Lohnes, 85, passed away on Monday, January 24, 2022, at Rose Monahan Hospice Home in Worcester after an illness. She was born in Worcester, the daughter of Gustaf and Dorothy (Clay) Ekeroth and had lived in Worcester before moving to Holden 30 years ago.

She leaves her loving husband of 30 years, Claude W. Lohnes; her children, Robert Sterner, Jr. and his wife, Cheryl of Worcester, Donna Holden and her husband, Robert of West Boylston, Deborah Hackett and her husband, William of Worcester, Philip Lohnes and his wife, Kathy of Boylston, Brenda Ross of Leicester and Wendy Hebert and her husband, Brian of Shrewsbury; 12 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her first husband, Robert E. Sterner, Sr. and her brother, Gustaf Ekeroth, Jr.

Barbara worked in the credit department at Fleet Bank for 22 years before retiring in 1996. She was an active member of Greendale People’s Church in Worcester and enjoyed trips to the family cottage on Cape Cod. She was devoted to her family and cherished time spent with them creating countless memories.

Funeral services for Barbara are private and will be held at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Greendale People’s Church, 25 Francis Street, Worcester, MA 01606. Arrangements are under the care of the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street, Holden.
