Astrid Helene Astorino, of Spencer, MA, passed away on Wednesday, October 26, 2016 at the age of 88.

Astrid will always be remembered for her strength as well as her desire and willingness to care for and help those who needed her.

Born on September 24, 1928 in Narpes Bole, Finland, she was the daughter of the late Karl Ivar Osterlund and Vera (Hogback) Osterlund.

Astrid is survived by her son, Michael Astorino and his wife, Lisa, of Worcester, MA, her daughter, Doreen (Astorino) O’Rourke and her husband, Bob, of Spencer, MA, with whom she lived, her brother, Karl (Bruno) Svalstedt of Norwalk, CT and her three devoted grandchildren, Kylie Elizabeth, Sean Robert and Kevin Patrick O’Rourke, all of Spencer, MA as well as nieces, nephews and cousins. Her sister, Linnea M. Wood, predeceased her.

Astrid enjoyed the many years she spent working at Leavitt Drug Store in Worcester. In 1996 she retired to devote much of her time caring for her grandchildren, which she did with unlimited pride and love. She will forever be in their hearts and minds.

The family would like to express heartfelt appreciation to the staff at Notre Dame Hospice and The Meadows of Leicester for their assistance in caring for Astrid throughout her illness. A special note of thanks to her long time physician, Dr. William Gaines of Reliant Medical, Colleen and Carol of Notre Dame Hospice and Ana, Tracy and Marianne at the Meadows of Leicester for their kindness and support over these past months.

A private funeral service will be held at CALLAHAN FAY & CASWELL Funeral Home, 61 Myrtle Street, Worcester, MA with burial to follow at Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton, MA. There are no calling hours.
