Anthony L. “Tony” Marchetti, 74, a longtime resident of Auburn, passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, April 14, 2026, following a nearly two-year battle with glioblastoma, which he fought with courage, strength, and dignity until the end.
Tony is survived by his devoted wife of 52 years, Susan M. (Murphy) Marchetti; his two beloved children, Amy Feeney and her husband, Christian, of Auburn, and Andy Marchetti and his wife, Kristin, of Marblehead; and his six adored grandchildren, Natalena, Olivia, Victoria, Doug, Graham, and Erick. He is also survived by his sisters, Maryann Altobelli and her husband, Kelly, Pauline Bertrand and his brother, John Marchetti. In addition, he had many loving sisters-in-laws, brothers-in-laws, cousins, nieces, nephews, and dear friends. He was predeceased by his parents, Mattia and Carmella (Varricchione) Marchetti, and his sister, Jeanette Eplin.
Tony was born, raised, and educated in Framingham. He was a graduate of Framingham South High School, Class of 1969. He went on to earn his bachelor’s degree from Worcester State University. He began his career at Dun & Bradstreet before later joining National Grid. He retired in 2021.
Tony and Sue made their home in Auburn, where they raised their two children. A devoted and involved father, Tony rarely missed a moment, attending every sports game and dance recital. He coached Little League, soccer, and hockey during his children’s school years, and cherished being an active part of their lives.
Tony loved following New England sports, especially the Red Sox—particularly when they were having a good season. He enjoyed golfing, but treasured even more the simple pleasures of sitting by the fire pit with a cigar in hand, surrounded by family and friends. An avid reader and lifelong learner, Tony especially enjoyed historical nonfiction, biographies, and mystery novels. Above all else, Tony loved spending summers in Harwich Port with his beloved family.
The family would like to extend their sincere gratitude to MetroWest Hospice and its staff for their kindness, compassion, and exceptional care.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Glioblastoma Research Organization at https://www.gbmresearch.org/donate
