Subscription Update Obituary

    Anthony J. “Mac” McCarthy, 78, passed away on Saturday, October 30, 2010 at home surrounded by his loving family after a valiant struggle with pulmonary fibrosis.

    He leaves his wife of 53 years, Mary M. (Sheehan) McCarthy; two daughters, Maureen F. McCarthy of Alameda, CA and Melinda A. McGraw of Holden; three grandchildren, Maurice, Ryan, Shane and a cousin, Dr. Peter Audette of Aruba, who was like a brother to him. He was born in New York, NY, the son of Dennis and Ruth (Davis) McCarthy and lived most of his life in Worcester.

    Mr. McCarthy graduated from Worcester Boy’s Trade High School and attended the University of Alaska and W.P.I. He was a Corporal in the U.S. Army serving in Alaska during the Korean Conflict. He was a tool and die maker for 30 years at Jamesbury Corp. in Worcester before retiring in 1997. Previously he worked for Millbury Engineering.

    Mr. McCarthy was a member of the National American Legion and National Rifle Assoc., The Knights of Columbus Pope John XXIII Council 5481and Bishop O’Reilly 4th degree Assembly #399 both in Worcester and was an 11 year member of the Jewish Community Center. He also was a member and past president of the Retired Men’s Club of Greendale. He enjoyed running, biking and bowling. Mac was an avid golfer who hit a hole in one and won 4 championships at the Pakachoag Golf Course in Auburn.

    The family would like to thank Dr. Joshua Greenberg, Dr. Steven Davis, Dr. Samah Said and UMass Memorial Hospice for their care and compassion.

    Relatives and friends are invited to attend a calling hour at 11:30 a.m. followed by a funeral home service at 1 p.m. on Thursday, November 4th, in the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street, Holden. Burial will follow at Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton. Flowers may be sent or memorial contributions may be made to UMass Memorial Home Health and Hospice, 650 Lincoln Street, Worcester, MA 01605 or the Retired Men’s Club of Greendale, 75 Shore Drive, Worcester, MA 01605.
