Subscription Update Obituary

    Anthony "Tony" Winsky, 88, died peacefully in his home on Monday, September 14, 2009. Mr. Winsky was born in Oakham, MA and was the proud son of Martin and Domicella (Zigas) Winsky.

    He and his parents, along with his 9 brothers and sisters later moved to Oxford, MA where his family purchased a farm, worked the land and raised livestock for many years. As a young man, Tony Winsky left the family farm to work as a Drop Forger at the Wyman-Gordon Company in Worcester, MA. While at Wyman-Gordon, Tony wanted to serve his country and enlisted in the U.S. Army and served as a WWII Paratrooper in the intensive peace-keeping efforts in Japan. Upon his return, he was re-hired in his position at Wyman-Gordon, where he worked as a dedicated employee for over 40 years. In 1948 he married Aldona (Pranaitis) and lived in Grafton for over 50 years.

    Mr. Winsky is survived by his daughters Deborah, wife of Maurice Tardy of Shrewsbury, with whom he lived, and Donna, wife of Bruce Chapin of Holliston, grandchildren, Eric, Halley and Ted, along with several nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his wife, Aldona, who died in 1989. He is also predeceased by his seven sisters and two brothers. Mr. Winsky was a member of St. Mary's Church in N. Grafton and also a lifelong member of the Lithuanian Naturalization Club.

    In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to The Jimmy Fund – Dana Farber Cancer Institute, 10 Brookline Place, West Brookline MA 02445 or The Worcester County Food Bank, 474 Boston Tpke, Shrewsbury MA 01545.

    The funeral will be held Thursday, September 17th from The Roney Funeral Home 152 Worcester St. in North Grafton followed by the celebration of a Funeral Mass at 10:30am in St. Mary's Church, 17 Waterville St. in North Grafton. He will then be laid to rest next to his wife with military honors at Worcester County Memorial Park in Paxton. All are invited to a calling hour from 9 to 10am on Thursday at the funeral home.
