Annie M. Coons, 99, passed away peacefully at CareOne in Millbury on Saturday, May 22nd.  Her family and friends remember her as quick-witted yet caring. She always knew how to put a smile on anyone’s face, whether it be with an unexpected risqué joke or her hospitality.

Ann was born in Princeton, MA to the late Anthony and Mary Gaizitis. She attended Princeton High School for 3 years, graduating in 1938, and went on to complete her fourth-year graduation from Holden High School.

During WW2, her family moved to Worcester to obtain jobs. Ann worked at Norton Co. from 1942 – 1954, followed by employment at Wyman Gordon. During this time, she married Harry Coons and gave birth to a son, Jay. For 20 years, the couple ran several bar businesses together. In 1978, she went to work at UMass Medical Center. She retired in 1988 and continued working part-time at Nensco in Millbury.

Ann loved ballroom dancing and was “a natural.” She was also an avid candlepin bowler and bingo player. Her grandchildren were the light of her life.

Ann is survived by her son Jay and his wife Sandy, her grandson Jeffrey, her granddaughter Samantha and husband Paul, her great-grandson PJ, and two nephews, Norman and Paul. Her husband Harry passed away in 2002. She is also predeceased by her sister Virginia Chevalier; her brother Charlie Gaizitis, his wife Della, and their son Steven.

Family and friends are invited to gather to remember Annie’s life with a time of visitation on Friday, May 27th from 9 to 10 a.m. in Mulhane Home for Funerals, 45 N. Main Street in Millbury.  Her funeral service and burial will be private.
