Subscription Update Obituary

Alan D. Tarkiainen, 76, died Monday, November 20 at his home after an illness. He leaves his wife of 33 years, Kathleen Williamson Tarkiainen and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by three brothers; Donald, David and Daniel Tarkiainen.

Born in Worcester, he was the son of Arvid & Natalie (Waskevich) Tarkiainen. After graduating from Commerce High School,  Alan was a professional photographer in the Boston/Worcester area. He then worked as a letter carrier for almost thirty years for the Leicester
Post office, retiring in 2011. He was a member of St. Ann’s Church in Oxford. Alan was a member of the Lithuanian War Veterans Drum and Bugle Corps of Shrewsbury, the Polish National Alliance Drum Corps of Worcester and St. Kevin’s Emerald Knights Senior Drum and Bugle Corps of Dorchester. Alan served his country in the Navy during the Vietnam War aboard the USS Isle Royale (AD-29).

A Funeral Mass will be held Monday, November 27 at 10 A.M. in St. Ann’s Church, 652 Main St., North Oxford, MA 01537. (Family and friends are asked to go directly to the Church). Burial with Military Honors will follow in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton.

Calling hours are Sunday from 2-4 P.M. in the MORIN FUNERAL HOME, 1131 Main St., Leicester.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Alan’s name to the American Cancer Society,
