Subscription Update Obituary

     William A. Bloom, 93, passed away surrounded by his loving family on Thurs., Feb. 27, 2014. He leaves his wife of 65 years, Evelyn (Dighton) Bloom; a son and two daughters and their husbands, William A. Bloom, Jr., Claudia and George Lloyd, and Paula and Patrick McAdam, all of Shrewsbury. He also leaves 4 grandchildren, Jessica, Gregory, Kristin and Patrick; 1 great-grandchild, Maeve; and his dedicated care-giver, Steve. He was predeceased by his brother, Raymond Bloom.

     William was born in Worcester, son of Emily (Skogsberg) and Bror Bloom. He was a WWII Navy veteran serving on the USS Ingersoll and member of VFW Post 3657 and American Legion Post 397. He worked at U.S. Steel, retiring after 35 years. Bill was a member of the Shrewsbury Sr. Center Men’s Club and Steel Workers Org. of Active Retirees. He enjoyed gardening, fishing, boating on Lake Singletary, and watching sports.

     Funeral services will be held Tues., March 4, at Nordgren Memorial Chapel, 300 Lincoln St., Worcester. A calling hour will be held from 9-10 a.m. followed by the service at 10 a.m. Burial will be in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project online or through the mail to Wounded Warrior Project, PO Box 758517.
