Wilfred J. “Pete” Gemme, 86, of Worcester, passed away suddenly in his sleep Thursday, March 15th 2012.
Pete’s wife of 43 years, Rita H. (Genese) Gemme passed away in 1994. He leaves behind, his three devoted children: Mary S. Gemme, Gary J. Gemme and his wife Donna, Alan W Gemme and his wife Deborah; seven grandchildren; numerous great grandchildren; nieces, and nephews. A brother, Leo and sisters: Helen and Alexina along with a great grandson Alan Anthony Gemme all predeceased him. Pete was born in Worcester, a son of Wilfred A. and Marie (Peloquin) Gemme. He graduated from St John High School, joined the U.S. Navy to serve his country proudly in the South Pacific where he achieved the rank of Petty Officer 3rd Class signalman aboard the PC 1260, a sub chaser during World War II. He has lived in Worcester all his life.
Pete’s primary employment was with Wyman-Gordon Company and worked there in the Forge Shop more than 40 years, before retiring. During his early career, Pete enjoyed a second job working alongside his father at the Old Worcester Lunch Car Company as a finish carpenter. At onetime, Pete also worked as a mover for the former A.J. Letourneau Mover’s of Worcester specializing in piano moving.
Pete was a member of the Pope John XXIII Council Knights of Columbus. His biggest enjoyments in life were power walking around Lake Park and watching his two grandsons play sports.
Funeral services and burial, with Military honors, in Worcester County Memorial Park were held privately. There are no calling hours. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association , 20 Speen St., Framingham 01701.
