Warren S. Day, 66, of 12 Tatnuck Gardens died yesterday in Worcester Memorial Hospital.
Mr. Day was president of Day Brothers Inc., a GMC truck dealership in Auburn, from 1956 to 1987, when he became chairman of the board. He worked there since 1945. He was also president of Day Truck Rental Corp. until it was sold in 1981.
Mr. Day graduated from the former Classical High School in 1940 and the aircraft program at Wentworth Institute of Technology, Boston, in 1942.
He was a Navy veteran of Wold War II, serving as a pilot on the aircraft carrier USS Antietam. After the war, he was commander of a squadron of submarine trackres stationed at the Naval Air Station in South Weymouth. He retired in 1957.
Mr. Day was president of the New England GMC Truck Dealers Association, and a member of the National GMC Truck Dealers Council, the Worcester Exchange Club and the Worcester Business Executives Club.
He was a member and past moderator of First Congregational Church. He was a member of the Tatnuck Island Club, the military Order of World War Officers and Athelstan Lodge of Masons.
Mr. Day was a 45-year member of Mohegan Council, Boy Scouts of America, and received its Silver Beaver award, one of the highest awards in scouting.
He leaves his wife, Sally (Baxter) Day; four sons, Steven B. Day of Charlton, Stuart W. and Kenneth C. Day, both of Worcester, and Spencer R. Day of Milton; a daughter, Elizabeth A. Day of Brunswick, Maine; twin brothers, Richard S. Day of Holden and Donald C. Day of Southboro; a sister, Virginia Hayden of West Newton; and seven grandchildren.
He was born in Worcester, son of Clifford W. and Dorothy (Southwick) Day, and lived here most of his life.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday in First Congregational Church, 1070 Pleasant St. The Rev. Jane C. Pearsall will officiate. Burial will be in Worcester Count Memorial Park, Paxton.
There are no calling hours.
The family requests that flowers be omitted. Contributions may be made instead to the Memorial Fund of First Congregational Church, 1070 Pleasant St., Worcester, 01602.
