Subscription Update Obituary

Vivian Irene (Standefer) French, 89, of Worcester and formerly of Auburn, died Thursday, January 11, 2007 at The Meadows of Leicester.

Her husband, Leon Grant French, died in 1985. She leaves two brothers, Tony Standefer of Las Vegas, Nevada and Roy Standefer of Carlinville, Illinois, two sisters, Pauline Lauer of Canvas, Wash. and Florence George in Canada; and many nephews and nieces including Carol Walsh of Charlton, Anna M. Borjeson of West Boylston and Jacqueline Barnett of Worcester.

Vivian was born in Greenfield, Illinois, daughter of Tony P. and Eveline May (Atkinson) Standefer. She lived in Worcester for many years and then Auburn for many years. She returned to Worcester in 2002.

She served in the Women’s Army Auxiliary Corps during World War II.

She was an inspector for the Telechron Division of General Electric Co. She worked for the company for 31 years, initially in Worcester for 15 years, and later in Ashland, before retiring.

A graveside service will be held Saturday, Jan. 13 at 11 a.m. in Worcester County Memorial Park, Richards Ave., Paxton. There are no calling hours.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Patient Activity Fund, in care of the Meadows of Leicester, 111 Huntoon Memorial Highway, Leicester 01542 or to the charity of one’s choice.

The Athy Memorial Home, 111 Lancaster St., Worcester, is directing arrangements.
