Virginia B. (Wade) Rutherford, 90, formerly of Main St, Rutland, passed away Wednesday, April 8th surrounded by family.
Virginia’s husband of 52 years, Loman “Jake” Rutherford went home to the Lord in 1990. She leaves to mourn her passing, four sons: Donald J. Rutherford and his wife Sandra of Punta Gorda, Florida, Robert T. Rutherford of Shrewsbury, David P. Rutherford and his wife Patricia, and Edgar C. Harris, all of Worcester; three daughters: Bonnie Lee Rutherford of Rutland, Linda L. Rutherford, Lillian M. Bonsra and her husband Bernard, all of Worcester; 20 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; five great great grandchildren; nieces; nephews; and friends. A son, Worcester Police Detective Lieutenant Loman A. Rutherford, Sr., and two daughters: Carolyn E. Foster and Shirley A. Bluneson all predeceased her. Virginia was born in Worcester; her parents were the late Julius and Lillian Wade-Ferguson and has lived here all her life.
Virginia worked more than 40 years in the education of people with special needs. She worked for the Rutland Heights Hospital, and retired from what is now the Seven Hills Occupational Training Center.
She was a member, Deaconess, former Trustee, Home Missionary and Nutrition program volunteer of Mount Olive Pentecostal Church. Virginia was also a member of The Massachusetts and National Teachers Associations.
A funeral service will be held Saturday, April 11th at 10:00 a.m. in Mt Olive Pentecostal Church, 60 Highland St. Burial will be in Worcester County Memorial Park in Paxton. Friends and relatives are invited to visit with the family from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Autumn Village Activities Fund, 25 Oriol Drive, Worcester 01605. The Rutherford family would like to extend their sincere gratitude to the Staff and Nurses of Autumn Village Nursing Home for the care, comfort and dedication to taking care of their mother.
