Vida M. (Colvin-Hughes) Haynes, 74, of Worcester, died Tuesday, June 14, 2011 in Millbury Healthcare Center, Millbury. Her husband of 10 years, Joel Haynes, died in 1988.

She leaves her former husband, Louis Hughes of Northport, AL; four sons, Tommy Hughes of Northport, AL, Jerry Hughes and his wife Doris, Larry and Don Hughes, all of Worcester; four daughters, Wylean Jackson and her husband Keith, Brenda Hughes-Jefferson and her husband Grady and Patricia Wells and her husband Michael, all of Worcester and Lois Hughes-Bacote and her husband Eric of Tuscaloosa, AL; two brothers, Eddie Colvin of Erie, PA and Harvey Colvin of Vineland, NJ; two sisters, Marlene Hughes of Northport, AL and Esther Williams of Tuscaloosa, AL; 27 grandchildren; 41 great grandchildren; several nephews, nieces and friends. She was predeceased by her son, Roger Hughes, her brother, Willie Patton and two sisters, Vera and Weddie Bonds.

Mrs. Haynes was born in Bessemer, AL, the daughter of Eddie and Hattie (Allen) Colvin. She was a senior companion for Elder Services and volunteered at St. Ann’s Church, Shrewsbury. Mrs. Haynes was a member of the Christ Tabernacle Church and former member of Grace Christian Centre Church. She was a member of the Quinsigamond Lodge of Elks, #173, and the YMCA, where she helped the elders with their exercises. Mrs. Haynes loved to sing, garden, work out and help people.

The funeral is Wednesday, June 22nd with a service at 1:00 PM in the Grace Christian Centre Church, 126 Elm Street. Burial will be in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton. Calling hours are Wednesday from 11:00 AM until 1:00 PM in the church. Flowers may be sent or donations may be made to Elder Services of Worcester Area Inc., 411 Chandler Street, Worcester, MA 01602. O’CONNOR BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME, 592 Park Avenue is directing arrangements.
