Thomas J. Kelly Sr., 67 of 17 Acushnet Ave., a longtime city firefighter, died Monday, March 19, in UMass Memorial Medical Center-University Campus, after being stricken ill at home.


He leaves his wife of 42 years, Carol A.(McKiernan) Kelly: three sons Thomas J Kelly Jr. of Auburn, Mark S. and George M. Kelly both of Worcester: a daughter Karen A. Kasabula of Stroud, Okla: a brother Leonard Kelly of Glen Burnie, Md.: Two sisters, Barbara Corman of Hyde Park, N.Y. and Beverly Kelly of Worcester. nine grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. He was born in Leicester, son of Thomas and Gertrude (O’Reilly) Kelly, and graduated from Commerce High School in Worcester. He was a navy veteran of the Korean War.


Mr. Kelly was a city firefighter for 24 years, working many years at the Grendale Station, retiring in 1986. He was a member of Our Lady of the Rosary Church, Alhambra Council Knights of Columbus 88, the American Legion Post 323, and Veterans of Foreign Wars post 3657.


The funeral will be held Thursday, March 22, from Fay Brothers Funeral Home, 9 Hammond St., with a mass at 10 a.m.in Our Lady of the Rosary Church, 25 Fales St. Burial will be in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton. Calling hours are 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, March 21, in the funeral home. I lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the National Shrine of St. Jude Claretian Missionaries, 205 West Monroe St., Chicago, IL 60606.
